Search Engine Optimisation – A necessary strategy for online success

Posted on: January 10th, 2012 by Beverley

When you have found a professional website design company to build your website it is priority that the focus should be on strategic search engine optimisation (SEO). Search engine optimisation is another powerful tool if you want your business to be successful.

A search engine optimisation campaign is necessary to rank your website higher in the search engines. Using keywords or key phrases that your targeted customers would use if searching for products or services are the elements used for search engine optimisation purposes.

Online businesses are evolving every day making many businesses struggling to survive. Therefore, the higher your business is in the search engines, generates more customers visiting your site and an increased traffic flow will ultimately produce more sales.

A successful search engine optimisation campaign is based on the relationship built between the web design company and the client. Communication between the client and the company is vital as the more the company knows about the clients’ business the more successful the search engine optimisation campaign will be. You should be kept informed on the progress of the search engine optimisation at all stages and be able to  suggest and add things that you think would help to enhance your business.

Successful search engine optimisation can only be carried out by skilled web masters with SEO experience, so don’t think you can just throw in the keywords willy nilly on your website as the search engines will detect this and reject your business in the rankings.

Search Engine Optimisation – King and Queen!

Posted on: December 22nd, 2011 by Beverley

SEO or search engine optimisation would be incorporated as part of your web design if requested by the client and should always be implemented by a skilled search engine optimisation technician.

There are many elements to a search engine optimisation campaign and if you need this for your website here are a few things that would contribute to a successful search engine optimisation campaign – or not!

The ‘King and Queen’ meaning: the content of the website is king and ultimately you have to have clear, well-written content that is unique and focuses on your primary keyword or keyword phrase. (beware of any SEO campaign that creates a whole pages full of the keywords known in the industry as a ‘doorway’. ) This is definitely NOT GOOD search engine optimisation!

So, if the content is the ‘king’ then the ‘queen’ has to be the links: good practise for search engine optimisation is to build a network of back-links. These have to be quality back-links and always using your keyword or keyword phrase as the link. (Never link to a site if there is no good, acceptable reason for that site to link to you. They could prove to be BAD LINKS and you don’t want them! or need them!

I could write pages and pages of good and bad search engine optimisation as it is such a complicated and technical application. But, if you are thinking of launching a new website or maybe redesigning your original one then that is the best time to include search engine optimisation. CWD are a web design company with many years of experience in SEO and would ensure that your site was designed or redesigned to be search engine friendly, if requested by a client.

A professional Web Design Company knows how important keywords are when designing a website for a business. Online businesses face the ever increasing challenge to obtain good search engine optimisation and it is now a proven fact that only the expertise of a Web Design Company can achieve this.

The competition between internet businesses increases every day making the need for the right SEO campaign designed uniquely for any individual business. There is much software available for SEO but it cannot create a lasting successful e-commerce website that will make the high rankings in the search engines.

The old saying, ‘you get what you pay for’ certainly applies to web design. It may cost more initially but by paying a professional Web Design Company to create a website for your business will put you the right road to success. Further down the line when the profits start rolling in you will be remembering another old saying, ‘ it was worth every penny spent because it has more than paid for itself’.

One of the common reasons the lay person attempts to build his own website is the initial financial outlay and understandably until the business starts reaping a return cash flow can be a problem.

Many established Web Design Companies offer competitive prices at affordable rates like CWD. If you choose a Web Design Company that offers a payment plan that would say to me that this company is confident. Confident that they can create a web design for your products/services to make your business a lasting success.

Boost your Website Ranking with SEO – Search Engine Optimisation

SEO ( search engine optimisation )

SEO is a technique incorporated on a website designed to boost your site in the search engine rankings. In other words it can allow your website to come up on the first page when people type in the keywords relevant to your business. SEO is the way to get more traffic to your website.

The advantages of SEO are blatantly obvious, if your business is on the first page of google chances are the internet users will click on your site. Being on the first page of google will put you ahead of your competitors who have the same business website as you, if they don’t have SEO.

SEO is only needed if your business is highly competitive as in a very low competitive market SEO is not usually needed as much. The Website Design Company will assess what optimisation is needed.

Search engines crawl the Web searching for text and from this they can calculate what the site is about. The term (and software) used for this is called a spider (or a crawler) and these spiders follow the links. They explore  page after page  indexing everything they collect (mainly text) on the journey. The spider cannot visit the same sites every day as there are too many of them (over 20 billion and rising fast) and sometimes a spider will not visit your site for weeks. The search engines that crawl the web can also process, calculate the relevancy and retrieve. Remember the spiders cannot see images, JavaScript, frames, protected pages, directories and flash movies so you don’t want your website to be overloaded with these.

This is one of the reasons why quality, easy reading content text incorporating the key words are an important part of the website design and development.

Website Design and Development for Universal Access – Part 3

Posted on: March 18th, 2011 by admin

Website Design and Development, When you first click on to a website and look at a page your eyes will scan over the whole of it and you will quickly decide which information you want to read. A blind person who will be using screen reader cannot do that as the reader reads one word at a time across the page including any alt. tag. information which can make top listed links very confusing. If you actually label your links as links or use clear gif with the alt. tag information ‘navigation bar’. The speech synthesizer can read this information and then the links.

In website design and website development good sized buttons can be used as another way for people with motion or visual impairments to access information from the pages of a website.

The page layout should be consistent on all the pages throughout the site. Visitors using small screen devices as well as people with special needs will benefit from this website design.

Navigation in your web design and web development that is clearly labelled is necessary to all users, not only for people with special needs. But even more so a straight forward, logical navigation layout is essential for any visitors that may have learning disabilities or who are using a speech synthesizer.

Professional web design and web development will use HTML tags to identify the content text for what it is and not how it looks.

Content in Web Design and Web Development

First impressions really do count! If you have enticed your visitor to venture beyond the first page you have a good chance of that visitor converting to a customer.

I know there is a lot of emphasis on the first page in your web design but once you have achieved this, website design and website development should be created and developed with your potential customers in mind throughout the whole site. The consistency of your website design is the difference between a professional website design and an amateur website design.

Keep your website interesting for your visitor by using informative relevant text and interesting graphics. Your content has to make sense to your visitors and has to be constantly reviewed and updated.

Just as important as the text and graphics in web design and web development are the links and the navigation system. Visitors can click on to your site and be impressed but if they cannot venture further in to the site because of poor navigation and links that don’t work, that ultimate goal you set out to achieve will quickly disappear.

Easy and clear instructions to use links and navigate from page to page is an essential part of your web design. Use the same system throughout your site so that your visitors get used to it and can travel through the website with ease and confidence. It’s all about making your visitors feel welcome and opening doors for them, just as you would do if they walked in to your high street store.

Readability in Website Design and Website Development cont – Part 3

Posted on: March 18th, 2011 by admin

Obviously diagrams and charts need to be included in your web design and website development as they can explain lots of necessary information.

Images are also a vital part of communicating with your visitors, but use them as part of the text. Your web design should merge images so that they don’t look as though they have been just stuck there as decoration

Avoid placing adverts in the middle of a page containing information that is relevant to your visitors needs. The flow of the text will be disturbed and could distract your reader.

Always check that your links in your web design and web development not only work but are highlighted. You could underline them as this is an effective way to make them stand out and it is known by most internet users.

It is not a good idea to use snapshots in your links. As your visitor hovers over a link the text could be hidden by the picture.

And last but definitely not least is navigation. It is all part of readability because your visitor has to read the signs to take him where he wants to go.

If you don’t have good navigation in your web design and web development your visitor will get lost and click away in frustration. Sometimes you design your pages referring information from one page to another. Your visitor needs to be able travel easily around your site. Keep your navigation simple and clear for all your visitors to use.

Readability in Website Design and Website Development cont – Part 2

Posted on: March 18th, 2011 by admin

A proven fact is that the shorter the width of the text, the easier it is to read. So try to limit the width of your text.

The colours you use contribute heavily to the readability factor. Use contrasting colours so that the actual text stands out.

Bearing in mind you don’t want to dazzle your visitors eyes.

Choosing your background to your text is just as important. A soft, easy on the eye colour is needed here for a professional look.

Avoid using fancy hard to read text in your web design and website development as it can just confuse your visitors. Plain easy to read text has much more of an impact and gets the message over to your visitors. Your aim is to get the information to your visitors, so if they are distracted by difficult styles of text their concentration is disturbed.

Professional copy writing in web design and web development should always be upper case and lower case together as it’s easier to read than text written in all the same case. Don’t use all upper case unless it’s really necessary as this text will totally dominate the page.

Always try to keep your writing light and hearty. What you are trying to portray is that you are in a happy place which is where you want to take your readers.

In your web design there will always be some information that you have to display like the post dates and the authors name. But these can be printed in a lighter shade of one of your colour schemes.

Readability in Website Design and Website Development

When you read a book, magazine, leaflet etc… and you can read it with comfort and ease then it means that the content and style of text is doing what the author, editor, advertising company etc….meant it to convey.

It is the same with a website, your web design and web development should have ‘readability’. This is another part of your web design and web development you have to get right for your visitors. If you do not have the skills to compile your text then go the professionals. Copy writing is an art and if your website design and website development doesn’t portray your message in a clear and precise manner it will affect the whole of your website.

There are some techniques you can adapt in your writing to make your site readable. Here are a few tips to guide which a professional copy writer would

employ.

When you have something to say don’t drag it in to a paragraph if it can be conveyed in a sentence. Short and clear sentences on a single subject are easier to read than whole paragraphs.

Be clear and precise with your information and get straight to the point

Make sure you space between paragraphs keeping your spaces the same.

Manage your information to make a professional appearance. Use headings, subheadings and bullet points to indicate to your readers specific information. And make sure your headings and titles etc… stand out from the rest of the text.

A major benefit from clear headings, subheadings etc…. is that your visitor can scan down to see what is in the article.
