The term trust rank means the level of to the trust Google gives to a website. This is one reason everything we do while building an SEO campaign should be aimed, partly at raising the level of trust Google will give our pages. The purpose of link building is to show that there are other websites out there that have gained trust in the content we are providing, and we are expecting that Google will trust our site more as a result. Because your link profile is one of the most important factors when trying to improve your rank for your chosen keywords, it’s hugely important to always be improving the factors that influence your link profile. You must remember that Google not only takes the number of links into account, but the actual relevancy (i.e. if it’s from a page with a similar topic, or whether it uses any relevant keywords in its anchor text), also what value they have placed on that linking page. When most people go start link building they will normally ignore the importance of quality links, and a lot of people simply look at a link as a link and go for quantity over quality. This is definitely not the right way to go about link building, the key to successful link building is to get some links from ‘authority’ sites, these sites have a high Google rank and a high trust rank themselves, a link from a good authority site is worth more than many irrelevant site links. The sort of sites that are seen as authoritative are mainly popular relevant sites, such as news sites, government sites, educational sites or sites that are seen as trustworthy and important in their fields. These are the sites you want linking to you if you want to increase your Google trust rank. This is of course not as easy as it sounds and Google is always looking out for questionable links, if you only link from a small group of sites then Google will decrease the value of those links, also if you build up links too fast it may look questionable. Also, things like your domain’s age and how long it’s been registered, keywords, relevancy of pages, and your site overall are all factors that will be taken into account for your trust rank . It is thought that Google tends to keep records of a few of these various measurements for a certain amount of time to be able to keep comparing what they find about your site. This way they are able to offer a realistic trust rank for each and everyone of you pages.
